Become a Cloud Services Broker with RightScale Self-Service

The ability to accelerate application delivery can drive an organization’s growth and profitability. RightScale Self-Service includes the following four capabilities:  

Standardization and Abstraction
RightScale Self-Service includes a cloud service catalog that enables users to design a set of cloud applications representing basic cloud instances, technology stacks, and even complex multi-tier applications. These cloud applications can be configured with the application versions, security patches, and software configurations that match company standards. The structure of a cloud application is defined in a Cloud Application Template (CAT), which provides the foundation for consistent configurations. IT teams can also enable options within a CAT that are available to end users, such as choices of clouds, instance types, and other situation-dependent choices.

Automation and Orchestration
RightScale Self-Service provides sophisticated orchestration, including the ability to define workflows for provisioning multi-tier applications; snapshot and rollback; and integration to IT service management (ITSM) systems or continuous integration (CI) processes. RightScale Self-Service enables automation of both standard and user-defined operations on cloud applications. It provides sophisticated orchestration capabilities through a cloud-focused workflow language that makes it easy to automate ordered steps and integrate with other services and systems through REST APIs. In addition, RightScale Self-Service itself provides a comprehensive public API, ensuring that it can be integrated into existing systems.

Governance and Policies
RightScale Self-Service enables cloud usage while providing visibility and policy-based governance across an organization’s entire infrastructure resource pool. RightScale Self-Service allows IT teams to control access to approved technology stacks and curate which cloud providers (public or private) and cloud options are available. Access controls enable IT teams to segregate responsibilities by role, such as designating users who can define items in the catalog vs. users who can access and launch those services. RightScale Self-Service also integrates with governance, auditing, and alerting that are part of the broader RightScale Cloud Portfolio Management solution.

Cost Management
RightScale Self-Service includes built-in cost management features that enable your IT teams to set usage quotas for teams as well as the individual end user in order to stay within set project budgets. The portal can display cost information to end users so that they can make informed decisions about the services they’re launching. They can see hourly costs as well as the total costs of running services over their lifetimes. RightScale Self-Service also provides options for automated shutdown based on time of day (such as shutting down development resources outside of working hours) or date (automated shutdown at end of projects).

In addition, RightScale Self-Service integrates with RightScale Cloud Analytics, enabling organizations to do “what if” analysis on different deployments, clouds, and purchase options (on-demand cost vs. pre-purchased cost scenarios, for example).
