Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.1 (squeeze) with the RightScale platform!


Core Features of this series:

  • Debian 6.0.1 update (addresses security & stability)
  • Boots native Debian Xen kernels with Amazon PV-GRUB AKIs
    • Natively-compiled RightLink 5.6.28, pre-installed and ready
    • Available in all AWS regions, including ap-northeast-1
    • i386 and amd64 (x86_64) MCI versions
    • EBS & instance-store MCI versions
    • All compatible instance types supported per AMI
    • Run EC2 user data scripts on boot (alestic.com style)
    • Ability to install and reboot with a new kernel
    • ext3 root filesystem, plus XFS support
    • Run Chef and RightScripts
    • No additional daemons/services running on boot
    • Minimal & selective additional packages installed
    • The 'standard' tasksel task incl. in addition to base packages
    • Default Debian main Apt source uses a locally geographic mirror
    • Compatible with RightScale Monitoring & Logging (chef configured)

The EBS versions of the MCIs add:

  • A swap partition, automatically enabled (independent of instance type)
  • A boot partition for installing & testing other kernels via reboot
  • 8GB root EBS volume, ideal for the AWS Free Usage Tier

  • RightScale Linux Server RL 5.6.28
