Published by RightScale on Oct 11, 2012Revision: 24

This ServerTemplate is a starting point for custom ServerTemplate development in Linux. This template includes the following:

  • Basic set of scripts for a RightLink-based server with logging, monitoring, alerts, etc.
  • MultiCloud Images that reference the latest supported images with a frozen software repository date that has been tested.
  • Basic set of alerts for most server type monitoring.
  • Examples of system required input variables.

This ServerTemplate is part of a compatibility release.

Not the best pick to start with for a new Template design. I use the "Database Manager with MySQL 5.1 Toolbox - 11H1" as a starting point. Then just delete all of the "mysql" stuff. The "MySQL" Template has all of the good scripts in one place. Once you "trim the fat" and remove the extra scripts that are not needed you get a nice server to build you app Template with. This Base is just too lean. It does not have any of the LVM or SWAP for example. If you started with this Template and want "The good stuff" use the Database Manager with "MySQL 5.1 Toolbox - 11H1" collection of scripts to add to your Template, just import and copy over the missing scripts. Another option is to use the 'RightScale Linux Server RL 5.6' ServerTemplate which uses the latest RightImages (at the time of this post), is Chef-based and includes monitoring, logging and a good set of default alerts. Debian 6 is also supported.
