Description

This is a RightScale OSS ServerTemplate supported by the community only and is an alpha release not recommended for production systems.

Provides install of RightScale and AWS/EC2 credentials for use with the RightScale and Amazon EC2 APIs. Includes:

  • Amazon EC2 API Tools
  • Amazon EC2 AMI Tools
  • RestConnection
  • rsapiexamples (sh/bash RS API 1.0 examples)
  • rs-api-tools (Ruby/rest_connection commands)

Once a server is booted with this ServerTemplate, both APIs can be access easily without additional configuration. EC2 tools commands such as ec2-describe-instances will be available in path. The rest_connection RubyGem will be installed including credentials for any Ruby scripts you have that use RestConnection.

Note: Java JRE is not configured on boot (used by EC2 AMI/API Tools). Because EC2 tools works best on Sun (Oracle) Java which demands license acceptance, this component has been left to the user to configure manually at this time. The default MCI, Debian squeeze uses openjdk-6-jre which has tested OK with EC2 tools out of box.
