RightScale Delivers Management Platform for Hybrid and Private Cloud Computing

RightScale myCloud Allows Organizations to Easily Manage Hybrid and Private Cloud Environments with Free Offering

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – June 7, 2011RightScale®, Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, announced today the launch of RightScale myCloud, a simple to set up, easy-to-use and cost-effective management platform for hybrid and private cloud computing. The free edition of RightScale myCloud gives organizations a powerful framework for testing and developing private cloud infrastructures with little financial or management risk. RightScale and its partners have created a simple and efficient method for organizations to leverage existing on-premise hardware to quickly build a private cloud infrastructure that can then be managed alongside public cloud resources with the RightScale Cloud Management Platform – creating automated, scalable hybrid clouds.

Private clouds are an attractive option for organizations that want to take advantage of cloud benefits such as agility and efficiency but want to maintain certain applications or data inside the corporate firewall for security, privacy, compliance or other IT policy concerns. Private clouds can also be more cost effective in certain scenarios. But many organizations struggle with building an on-premise cloud since it can be a complex, time-consuming process that requires in-house resources and expertise. On-premise clouds require a new virtualization and cloud enablement layer on top of existing hardware infrastructure to create an API-driven, elastic set of resources. RightScale has partnered with leading providers of on-premise infrastructure-as-a-service software platforms Cloud.com and Eucalyptus Systems to make installation of their IaaS cloud software and its integration with myCloud a smooth and easy process.

Upon completion of setting up a private cloud with myCloud, RightScale’s Cloud Management Platform provides a ‘single pane of glass’ view to both private and public cloud resource pools where administrators can provision and launch servers in a matter of minutes, as well as manage and automate those servers. RightScale myCloud simplifies the process of deploying a fully managed hybrid cloud infrastructure, dramatically reducing the learning curve and set up effort for private and hybrid cloud computing. With myCloud, organizations can set up and test the Eucalyptus or Cloud.com private clouds managed by RightScale and then move them to production alongside public cloud infrastructures such as Amazon Web Services or Rackspace Cloud.

RightScale myCloud is Simple to Set Up, Easy to Use and Cost Effective
Simple to Set Up:
RightScale myCloud eliminates the need to assemble many different components from separate providers when implementing a private cloud. Administrators walk through a standard installation process to stand up a working, preconfigured private cloud. They simply download a package, install it on-premise, and connect the newly set up private cloud to RightScale. From there, the emphasis shifts to using the cloud, rather than digging deep into the various cloud setup permutations that can be time-consuming and complex. The whole process takes only a few hours to complete, and the new cloud can immediately be added to the pool of computing resources available for management through the RightScale Cloud Management Platform.

Easy to Use: RightScale’s Cloud Management Platform provides a ‘single pane of glass’ view to launch applications in a private cloud or public cloud, and enables easily moving applications or cloning server configurations across cloud infrastructures. To get started, users leverage RightScale ServerTemplates™ that provide configurations for ‘cloud-ready servers’ – a faster and simpler way of launching servers in the cloud. The RightScale MultiCloud Marketplace provides hundreds of best practice ServerTemplates from RightScale, its partners and the RightScale community covering a wide range of applications, middleware and software components. Users import supported ServerTemplates from the MultiCloud Marketplace and can then launch servers on their newly created private cloud, reducing the need for configuration and increasing the reliability and predictability of workload deployments.

Cost Effective: Private clouds managed by RightScale myCloud leverage open source technology to dramatically reduce the cost of hosting and managing application workloads within the firewall. Organizations can test on-premise clouds quickly and efficiently for free using myCloud partner IaaS software and cloud-ready solutions from the RightScale MultiCloud Marketplace. myCloud reduces complexity not only in standing up the cloud but also in configuring systems for business needs. As the need for capacity grows, organizations then have the choice of expanding their on-premise cloud infrastructure, or adding resources from public clouds on a pay-as-you-go basis.

“RightScale has always focused on making it easier and more productive to manage and automate applications in the cloud, and now with myCloud we are taking our support for private and hybrid clouds to the next level. RightScale myCloud makes on-premise cloud computing a viable option for all our customers by enabling an easy on-ramp and then offering a path to build out whatever multi-cloud environment they need,” said Michael Crandell, CEO of RightScale. “This is our vision for the future of hybrid clouds.”

RightScale myCloud Free is available now through an early access program and is offered in cooperation with private cloud partners Cloud.com and Eucalyptus. RightScale will also offer myCloud Standard edition with additional functionality and support that will be available soon. For organizations with specific needs that require consultative setup and support, myCloud Enterprise is available now. To find out more about myCloud call RightScale sales 1.866.720.0208.
