RightScale Sees Multi-Cloud Use On The Rise
Latest Data Reveals RightScale Customer Usage Now 87 Percent Multi-Cloud
SANTA BARBARA, CA March 27, 2012 RightScale® Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, today announced that 87 percent of its customer cloud usage comes from customers using more than one cloud provider and cloud type. This confirms the growing trend to leverage multiple clouds ⎯ public, private and hybrid ⎯ to meet IT needs such as high availability, business continuity, disaster recovery, application performance and reduced cost.
Over the past year, RightScale customers have been accelerating their multi-cloud usage, not only accessing more than one public cloud but increasingly building private clouds to complement public cloud usage. In an analysis of aggregate customer cloud usage, RightScale found that 87 percent of compute power managed through the RightScale platform comes from companies that utilize multiple clouds.
“RightScale has been a great partner of ours since the beginning,” stated Reza Rassool, CTO, Music Mastermind. “When we began the transition to a multi-cloud environment, we were looking for a partner that would make the process simpler and faster. Using RightScale, our IT team was able to more efficiently address challenges and we were able to reduce the time it took to bring our Zya product to market.”
RightScale provides flexibility and scalability to support companies as their cloud strategy changes and evolves. RightScale acts as a “universal remote” for the cloud, enabling unified access and transparency across supported clouds, accessible via the RightScale Dashboard or the RightScale API. More than ever, RightScale customers are seizing the benefits of different cloud options by deploying their applications on multiple public clouds, as well as on internal private clouds with RightScale myCloud. The most prevalent multi-cloud use cases are disaster recovery leveraging multiple public clouds, tailored application performance and reduced cost achieved through hybrid cloud.
"You have to leave the legacy data center mindset behind when you design for the cloud. We design for failure as a core principle at Coupa since customers expect 100 percent uptime irrespective of whether our product is hosted on the cloud or in a data center,” said Sanket Naik, sr. director, cloud operations and integrations at Coupa. “RightScale multi-cloud support enables us to transparently host Coupa on public clouds such as Amazon and Rackspace or a CloudStack-based private cloud while delivering high availability and data privacy compliance."
“The rise of our customers’ multi-cloud usage correlates with the sophistication of the deployments they are running in the cloud,” said Michael Crandell, CEO of RightScale. “It’s amazing to see the performance, resilience and agility our customers are achieving today using the RightScale platform in coordination with our world-class service provider partners spanning ten distinct global geographies.”
RightScale offers six fully supported public cloud partners through their platform that include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Datapipe, IDC Frontier (IDCF) a subsidiary of Yahoo! Japan, Logicworks, Rackspace and SoftLayer. RightScale also partners with private cloud software providers Citrix Cloudstack, Eucalyptus and Openstack® Cloud.
To deliver additional multi-cloud capability to customers, RightScale recently announced a partnership with Equinix offering IT teams the powerful combination of their own corporate private cloud with a direct high-speed connection to public clouds already located in Equinix facilities. This partnership allows IT teams and service providers to increase the speed and reliability of delivering comprehensive cloud environments, especially for those organizations with high data security and compliance needs or for those looking for increased performance for specific applications.
Peder Ulander, Vice President of Product Marketing for Cloud Platforms at Citrix
“Multi-cloud deployment strategies are helping enterprises capture all of the benefits created by cloud computing while ensuring the availability, portability and scalability of their applications, data and services,” said Peder Ulander, vice president of product marketing for cloud platforms at Citrix. “Customers building their enterprise cloud environments using Citrix CloudStack and RightScale are able to instantly benefit from multi-cloud deployments. By following a write once, run on any cloud model our customers are able to optimize their cloud economics and availability, while ensuring they don’t get locked into a single cloud provider.”
Ed Laczynski, Vice President of Cloud Strategy at Datapipe
“As a global provider of mission critical IT services, Datapipe excels at solving our customers’ complex IT needs,” said Ed Laczynski, vice president of cloud strategy at Datapipe. “The RightScale platform speeds the deployment of hybrid cloud environments that leverage our managed infrastructure and cloud services."
David Butler, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Eucalyptus
“The demand for hybrid cloud capabilities is on the rise as enterprises look for ways to dynamically scale their applications,” said David Butler, senior vice president of marketing at Eucalyptus. “Through our integration with RightScale myCloud, customers can create AWS-compatible clouds that enable applications to be scaled between on-premise and public clouds in a matter of minutes. This approach enables enterprises to use whichever cloud solution best meets their business needs at any given time.”
Kenneth Ziegler, President of Logicworks
“The world is moving to a multi-sourced IT delivery model. Clients want the flexibility to match the right cloud or service provider to their specific application needs, which can be varied based on things like performance or compliance requirements,” stated Kenneth Ziegler, president of Logicworks. “For example, using RightScale, our Healthcare clients leverage Logicworks’ cloud services on a private availability zone basis for their HIPAA compliance requirements, while mixing and matching other resource pools from public providers for less sensitive needs.”
John Engates, CTO of Rackspace
“Rackspace believes that customers need flexibility built into the systems that support their IT strategies,” said John Engates, CTO of Rackspace. “Our relationship with RightScale provides our customers that flexibility along with a ‘single pane of glass’ for managing multi-region Rackspace deployments alongside private cloud deployments.”
Marc Jones, Vice President of Product Innovation for SoftLayer
“Our partnership with RightScale is a key component of our strategy for delivering best-of-breed solutions that cover the gamut of managing public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructures,” said Marc Jones, vice president of product innovation for SoftLayer. “Our joint customers appreciate the ability to automate and manage their toughest computing workloads across multi-cloud environments while being able to maintain complete control over their IT environment.
