Technology

Big data
IBM InfoSphere BigInsights is part of IBM’s platform for big data and designed to help you find insight in new and emerging types of data, to make your business more agile, and to answer questions that, in the past, were beyond reach. It brings the power of Hadoop to the enterprise. Apache Hadoop is the open source software framework, used to reliably managing large volumes of structured and unstructured data. BigInsights enhances this technology to withstand the demands of your enterprise, adding administrative, workflow, provisioning, and security features, along with best-in-class analytical capabilities from IBM Research. The result is that you get a more developer and user-friendly solution for complex, large scale analytics. BigInsights Basic Edition is free and available through RightScale.

Data management
IBM DB2 is a new breed of database management system. By combining traditional relational database capabilities with a fast and efficient XML storage engine and NoSQL capabilities, IBM DB2 delivers a unique approach that is better suited for today’s dynamic applications. IBM DB2, considered a gold standard for performance, scalability, reliability and security, is now available for private and public cloud deployments. You can get started with DB2 on RightScale free of charge with DB2 Express-C and feel confident that DB2 will accommodate the needs of your business and data as they grow.

Application server
Based on the open source application server Apache Geronimo, IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition (WAS CE) is free and utilizes lightweight Java EE 6 platform to streamline the creation of less critical departmental-level applications. WAS CE harnesses the latest innovations from the open source application server community and provides a clear path to more advanced capabilities through the WebSphere Application Server family.

Partnership

IBM partnered with RightScale to deliver “cloud-ready” Server Templates that embody years of experience of running IBM DB2, WebSphere middleware, and now BigInsights in enterprise environments. These ServerTemplates and RightScripts allow our joint customers to create reliable and scalable, enterprise-class deployments on the cloud in minutes instead of days or even months. Because these templates use the same technologies as IBM customers use for their on-premises deployments in their own data centers, IBM templates are especially useful for creating cost-effective development and test environments.
